Artist's Statement

The Astore Faber project aims to tell stories of hope and inner peace. 

Hope is our aspiration to experience the joy of living despite the difficulties and our unquenched desire to overcome those difficulties. 

Inner peace is the state of blissful acceptance of the world and self. 

Astore's illustrated tales depict journeys of self-discovery and transformation.

The artist's ambition is to inspire the audience to embark on a journey with the characters so they (the audience) may find hope and inner peace in their own lives while following the storylines.

Astore Faber's style is delightful and cozy yet transcendental and odd. It reflects life challenges through humorous and sometimes naive imagery, reminiscent of medieval illustrations in which an idea prevails over accuracy. Despite depicting complex concepts and dramatic events, Astore's artwork is delightful and can bring a smile to one's face.

Astore Faber's false-perspective child-like world resembles a comfort item, an old toy, or a book of fairytales that allows the viewer to reflect on life challenges represented in the stories with an attitude of curiosity and humor rather than dread.

Astore begins working on the illustrations by reflecting on an emotional state or idea to represent. She sketches it out on a piece of paper or a drawing tablet, then transforms it into a high-resolution digital image while playing around with plentitudes of textures to ensure the intended representation's balance, clarity, and intensity.  

Texts accompanying the illustrations are not necessarily well-thought-through writing but a combination of free-flowing insights and ideas. Words may be, at times, incoherent or confusing, but their goal is to gain clarity and balance at the end.
