The source of life is One surrounded by the forest of dreams and limitations.
They say it is the fire that burns within, prompting us all to form and create.
It is a tree with roots deep in the Earth's soil and the branches high above the clouds.
It is a dream of a seedling.
It is a dream of us all when stripped of insecurities.
The soul of the universe speaks through this fire. They say it speaks words of wisdom.
Yet all they can hear are the voices of angels they create as they walk the earth.
Traditionally, the Ace of Wands is a symbol of initiation — a fiery beginning, a conception, so to speak. It is a symbol of life and creation, as represented by the symbols placed on the wand.
The wand is yellow. It can be seen in many ways, including as a symbol of gold and as the color of light‑wood trees like birch.
In Astore Faber’s mythology, different tones of yellow represent various attitudes, mental states, and emotions. This particular yellow indicates social involvement and a tendency to fantasize. Fantasy is often seen as a negative attribute in our material world, yet it can lead to marvelous discoveries.
Red is associated with fire and the fiery nature of the Ace of Wands. But here it is simply an indicator, while attention is drawn to other colors as more essential to the interpretation.
The color of warm, dusty clay once again points to human limitations — mental, physical, and social. The cool minty green, the ground on which the wand stands, is a conception ground: growth potential mixed with mental reasoning and even instinct.
Now, let’s move on to the blue, ghostly “forest” with red trunks and bright blue foliage. Here, it is up to the viewer to decide whether the forest is supportive, protective, or preventative. It helps a divinator decide which steps to take toward personal development.
The balanced view is the neutrality of the forest: passions, desires, and wishes surrounded by ideas and dreams. From this energy of growth and development, something new emerges. Still, there is no indication of what the end product will be.
The dusty lilac color behind or above the forest is the uncertainty of the future — a reminder that nobody can see all.
In short, the Ace of Wands is a wonderful card to explore when addressing any kind of initiation, conception, growth, or development.

We all possess the answers we seek — even if we’re tired of hearing that phrase, it remains true. Those answers may be tiny flickers in the dark or bright as the sun. Sometimes, to understand the nudges and clues of our subconscious mind, intuition, the Universe, god, or the spirit world (whatever you prefer), we need a tool. Tarot — in this case, Tarot of the Fool by Astore Faber — can become that tool. It can help us awaken, clarify, or interpret those answers.
Still, tarot is just a tool — a way of playing with symbols and letting the mind speak in its own language. It’s not meant to replace professional guidance, medical or otherwise. If something in your life needs real‑world attention, please turn to someone qualified to help. The cards can offer insight, but the choices — and the responsibility — remain yours.
